Mark Ellis 1967-2008

Mark Ellis 1966-2008

Family and friends are deeply shocked and saddened at the sudden passing of Mark, of Dodworth, at the age of 41.  Mark was well known both in Sheffield and Barnsley.  He worked for over ten years for the Housing Department at Sheffield City Council, before joining Barnsley Authority as a Probation Worker. As well as being a Reds season ticket  holder Mark was a great music fan, with his love of obscure punk and ska tracks earning him the nickname B-side amongst friends.

One of his final days must have also been one of his greatest.  He was among the Reds fans at Anfield watching Barnsley's tremendous FA Cup fifth round victory over Liverpool, before returning to Barnsley to dance the night away at the Reverend and the Makers gig. He'll be sorely missed.

To commemorate Mark, his love of music and his work in the probation service, his friends are organising a number of events aiming to raise funds for the Jail Guitar Doors campaign.  This is an independent initiative set up by Billy Bragg with the aim of providing musical equipment for inmates serving time in Her Majesty’s prisons.

You can read about about the good work the Jail Guitar Doors campaign does on their website www.jailguitardoors.org.uk.
